2022 Force Multiplier Grant

The PA Veteran Farming Project network announces its 2022 Force Multiplier Grants.

 Funded by the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture, this grant program recognizes

honorably discharged veteran owner-operator farmers in Pennsylvania. Up to ten $10,000

grants are anticipated to be awarded in January, 2023; project purchases must be completed by

June 15, 2023.


Total project budget may not exceed $10,000.

 

The application is open Monday, October 17, and closes Monday, November 14, 2022, at 5 pm ET.
 

Eligibility:
•    Honorably discharged military veterans—Army, Air Force, Navy, Marine Corps, Coast Guard
•    You must reside in Pennsylvania.
•    The applicant must be a 50% or more owner of the farm and must invest a significant

effort in farm operations on a daily basis.
•    One application per farm only. If jointly owned by two veterans, you may apply as

co-applicants but only one grant per farm will be awarded.

How will awardees be chosen?
Each application will be judged for administrative completeness by PA Veteran Farming Project

(“Grantor”) staff. Complete applications from eligible applicants will be reviewed by an

independent panel of qualified judges. The top 10 applications will be awarded grants

of up to $10,000. Grantor reserves the right to offer grants of less than $10,000;

decisions of the Grantor are final. Recipients must comply with provisions in 

the award letter.

Fill out the application form and attach the following required documents:
1.    High resolution photo (.jpg or .png)
2.    2 most recent submitted Schedule F’s
3.    DD214 

 

Allowable costs: Equipment, supplies, contracted labor necessary to complete the project as defined in application. Grant funds may not be used to pay labor costs for applicant or their family members or employees. Expenditures allowable upon receipt of signed award contract from grantor; prior purchases are not allowable. Do not make purchases in anticipation of being funded as these will not be reimbursed.
 

All fields are required, and applicants must adhere to word count limits; it is strongly suggested that you draft your responses in Word, then copy and paste into the online form.

FAQs:

Is the award taxable? Yes, the grant award money is taxable. Awardees will be required to provide a 1099.  Please consult your tax advisor for more information.


If we're doing fruit/vegetable farming, can we include a timeline going beyond June 15 to show how the funds will complete the project and benefit the farm? You must spend the funds (or document that you've placed orders) by June 15, but if your project extends beyond that date, explain this in your timeline.


Can the grant funds encompass several supply, equipment, etc as long as they don't exceed $10,000? Yes

With the limited text allowed within the answer blocks, what is your recommendation to ensure we can answer fully. as the Budget will likely need to be detailed? If purchasing many small items, you may combine them under 'supplies' as long as you describe what they are, where you'll purchase them, costs, and how you estimated them.


Can we upload other docs to explain plans? No

Can we include fees to participate in Farmers' markets? No, as these don't qualify as tangible items.

 

Safety equipment counts as supplies, correct? Yes

For schedule Fs, are we uploading the 2020 and 2021? Upload your two most recent filed Schedule Fs.

Can supplies be actual plants? Yes, if necessary to your project. Livestock would also be allowable if central to the project.
