Hops for Brewing

Hops for Brewing: Begins Monday, January 11, 2021 at 7:00 PM

Have you thought about growing locally-sourced ingredients for the craft beer industry? This hybrid, self-paced course will provide you with an overview of the brewing industry and the information you need to learn about the agricultural aspects of crafting the perfect brew. $100 fee covers all materials including a rhizome to grow your first hops plant this spring. Farm$en$e by Penn State Extension. Short courses:Finance and Production Education for Pennsylvania Farm Businesses. Learn how to manage scarce financial resources and plan farm production accordingly.

Harrisburg Area Community College's Enology & Viniculture program is GI BIll approved. Coursework in growing grapes and making wine is online augmented by limited time on campus; students complete a paid apprenticeship. Questions? POC is Bob Green, ragreen@hacc.edu

Leheigh University partners with Rodale Institute on Urban Ag projects

Rodale Institute's Veteran Farming Training Program offers tailored, flexible, two-to-four month training in organic farming, that includes a stipend and housing allowance. This program targets the needs of those veterans who are interested in organic agriculture, but are not sure if they want to make a career change into agriculture.

           

NCAT Armed to Farm: Farmer veterans learn how to run a successful business and market their products, how to access USDA resources, set business goals, and develop meaningful mentorships with seasoned farmers in this one-week, immersive class. Mornings are 'classroom' time, with hands-on, on-farm experiences in the afternoon. Armed to Farm will be coming to PA in late 2023!

Horn Farm Center in York, PA offers training and workshops, a CSA, community gardens,

and an incubator farm for those with at least 2 years of farming experience. 

The Seed Farm, in Emmaus, PA (Lehigh county), offers an 8 month training program covering all aspects of managing a diversified vegetable farm. Trainees receive an average of 20 hours of training per week from early March through the end of October.  They are not yet accepting 2017 applications.

NOT currently on WEAMS for GI Bill students.

Chatham University’s Falk School of Sustainability & the Environment offers a Master’s of Sustainability, which includes coursework in Sustainable Ag, and is housed at the Eden Hall campus.

Saint Francis University in Loretto offers Aquarium and Zoo animals major and Environmental Studies  major for future Fisheries management and Forestry professionals.
